Care Instructions
Daily habits
- Air it out: give the jacket a day’s rest between wears.
- Correct hanger: broad/contoured wooden hanger to keep shoulder shape.
- Microfiber wipe: dust gently; avoid wet wipes and alkaline soaps.
- Keep dry: rain happens—don’t panic, just dry naturally (no heaters/hairdryers).
Cleaning & conditioning (smooth leathers: nappa, aniline, semi-aniline)
- Routine: dust monthly; light clean each season.
- Conditioning: very sparingly, 1–2× per year with neutral, pH-balanced leather balm. Always spot-test on a hidden area.
- After rain: once fully dry, apply a light condition to restore suppleness.
Suede & nubuck
- Protect: apply a color-safe water-&-stain protector spray every 3–4 months.
- Maintain: use a suede brush (and an eraser block for marks).
- Never: creams, oils, or heavy conditioners.
Specialty finishes
- Patent/foiled/metallic: wipe gently with a slightly damp cloth; avoid conditioners and abrasives.
- Shearling: air-dry only; brush the wool side; treat the suede side as nubuck.
Stains & spills (quick reference)
- Water marks (smooth): blot; if a tide line forms, lightly dampen the whole panel with a clean cloth to even it out; let dry.
- Oil/grease: lift excess. Smooth leather—see a specialist. Suede—corn-starch/talc for a few hours, then brush.
- Salt/rain rings: gently wipe with a barely damp cloth; repeat once; dry.
- Ink/dye transfer: avoid DIY—professional only. (Dark denim can crock onto light leathers.)
- Mold/mildew (smooth): wipe lightly with 1:1 water/isopropyl on cloth; air; condition next day. If persistent, see a specialist.
What to avoid
- Heat sources, steamers, hairdryers, radiators.
- Plastic covers or cramped wardrobes.
- Household cleaners, acetone, bleach, baby wipes.
- Over-conditioning (can darken/soften seams).
- Spraying perfume or hair products onto the leather.
Storage & travel
- Seasonal storage: clean, condition (smooth leather), stuff with tissue, zip closed, cotton bag, cool/dark place.
- Travel: breathable garment bag; avoid tight folds; unpack and hang on arrival.
Hardware & lining
- Zippers/snaps: occasional gentle clean with dry cloth; protect leather if using any lubricant.
- Lining (cupro/viscose): spot-clean sparingly; professional dry clean only with a leather specialist when needed.
